Putting Trust to the Test
The following passage has been marinating in my spirit today.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
There is a line between putting “the Lord thy God to the test…” and putting your trust to the test. As I got out of my car yesterday and went into work lunch-less, I decided to put on an attitude of gratitude. I silently prayed “Thank you Lord for always providing for me. I put my trust in you today.” At 11:20am, I was hungry and got the unction to go down to the commons area with no money in my pocket for the snack bin.
I arrived downstairs just as a bunch of sample sub sandwiches from Jimmy John’s was being delivered and got a small snack to tide me over. I have found that when I come to the Lord with thanksgiving and gratitude, it is when I get blessed most.
Today was no different and as I sat down, my deskmate tossed me a breakfast sandwich. God is good!
Parents out there, think of when you give to your children. Are you more likely to give them good things when they are complaining about lack or when they express sincere gratefulness to your gift? Does our heavenly Father work differently?
